Sonic Roms Guide
Title Screen Scrambled Egg Sky High Aqua Lake

If you were expecting the less popular version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to be a little more similar to Death Egg filled insanity of the Genesis version, I don't love you anymore. Rather than preserving the more memorable and enlightening zones of the original beast and mixing them with a few new shades of Sonic mania, the team behind Sonic 2 opted to make an entirely new game. In fact, it wasn't at all made in conjunction with the Genesis set of bytes we all sacrificed our first born child for, save the inclusion of Tails. The speed and size of the viewing area of this very title on the Game Gear, not to mention a metric slurry of cheap hits and impossible bosses, made this less than satisfying for the Gear, but the Master System version is something of a better experience. The Master System, with its dull colors and tiny sprites, with the superior version of a game? Go ahead and worry. Sinner!

Rom Variations

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (International) (1992)
Let's face it, the Master System just isn't very interesting when it comes to rom variations. Even the Game Gear is more impressive than this. Honestly, would it kill the lads to give it a different name in Japan or something? Wouldn't you agree? You wouldn't? Infidel!
