Sonic Roms Guide
Title Screen Lava Powerhouse The Machine The Showdown

Regardless of any control issues it may have, Sonic Spinball is still tons of fun and the very first Sonic sidegame. Pinball played an interesting role in the first two games and added diversity to the Spring Yard and Casino Night zones, so this game made a lot more sense than, say, a kart racer or fighting game starring our lovable blue hedgehog ever would (Sonic Spinchinko would be just a little too far outside the box, I'm afraid).

Rom Variations

Sonic Spinball (International) (1993)
This is something of a rare dump of the game and tends to be far more responsive and faster than the common dump on the internet. The header states that this rom is only for North America, but I presume it's international anyway. The common dump seems to be a hack of some sort since it has different music (most noteably on the title screen and game over tunes), clunkier control, frustrating framerate, and lack of a level select.

Sonic Spinball (Beta Version)
And this would be...a beta...of some sort. The intro is a bit different than you may remember it, and the sound effects generally exhibit a level of crap we are rarely able to encounter. It's a late beta, so the differences aren't quite dramatic, and there doesn't seem to be any way to defeat the final boss. Much like the Sonic Crackers alpha, you can reposition the spiny one by pausing the game and moving around.
