Sonic Roms Guide
Title Screen Gigapolis Sleeping Egg Electric Egg

Sonic Chaos finally broke away from the mold cast by the big, bad Genesis Sonic extravaganzas...to some extent. Or something. What's new from prior Game Gear outings is an easier to handle pace, more polished graphics, special stages, a playable Tails, and a "rocket shoes" item for Sonic (still no shield, however). There's also no real Genesis counterpart to this and, much like Sonic 2, every single zone is unique to this game. Now there's something we can all be proud of! Of course, it's still not very interesting...

Rom Variations

Sonic Chaos (North America/Europe) (1993)
There's a lot here that sets it apart from its Master System cousin, most notably the title and zone introduction screens. Also different in the Master System version is a new theme for Gigapolis, and an observant ear will notice the introduction sequence uses the theme from the last level for a very good reason (just kidding). As far as regional differences go, the Japanese edition was released before this one under the alternate identity of Sonic & Tails with only minor differences in the title and zone introduction screen fonts (wait, didn't I just...).

Sonic & Tails (Japan) (1993)
Same game, different name. Don't let the pink zebras confuse you, this is only useful for you if you're an addicted rom collector, for which there is help through the form of deadly narcotics and various "resocialization" programs. Wait, I think I forgot what I just said...it had to do with Sonic & Tails, right?
