Sonic Roms Guide
Title Screen Sky High Green Hills Crystal Egg

Despite the bit of innovation Sonic the Hedgehog 2 brought to the Sonic series, including the introduction of Tails (but in a very minor way considering he only makes appearances on the game's zone introduction screens and ending), it still occupies an area of many a Sonic fan's heart dangerously close to oozing piles of excess pig parts. Why? To start, the designers neglected to consider human players when tweaking the blazing speed. The bosses are also lean towards impossible on the small screen. Shame, shame, shame. I'll never grow weary of hang gliding or bubble riding, though. On a personal note, this game marks the mysterious disappearance of the shield from further Game Gear Sonic games. Yes, that was personal...don't think no one noticed, Sega of Japan.

Rom Variations

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (International) (1992)
The infamous international version of Sonic 2. It has better color than the Master System equivalent, but you'll quickly appreciate the higher resolution of that version when you get to some of the bosses. Or will you? Find out next week...or be destroyed!

Compilations

Sonic 2-in-1 (Europe) (1995)
A Game Gear compilation? Why, I can hardly believe my own eyes! It's from Europe, you say? Oh...I guess nothing is ever a complete surprise. This time, they experimented with the possibilities of merging Sonic 2 with Spinball into, get this, a single rom! Don't ask questions, just reap the benefits this brave new age will surely bring!
